The duck-billed dino grew three to five times faster than some of its more fearsome predators, giving it a size advantage that might have helped it to survive to adulthood.

Nithya,
I am someone who is obsessed with dinosaurs. The duckbilled platypus we find in Australia, is it a descendent of the duckbilled dinosaur? Just curious!

Honestly I am not sure about it. Previously everyone thought that birds descended from Theropods (large jawed carnivorous dinosaurs that walked on two legs), however recently this theory has been confirmed. Even the movie Jurassic Park explains it to some extent. But I don’t know anything about duck bill platypus being descendants of the duck bill dinosaur!

But it’s very interesting to read about the duck-billed platypus. Did u know that the fossils of Akidolestes was found recently .Nat Geo mag says it had jaws, teeth, and forelimbs that identify it as a close relative of modern placental and marsupial mammals. But it also has a highly unusual back-half to its skeleton similar to that of primitive, egg-laying mammals known as monotremes. The only living descendants of monotremes are the duck-billed platypus of Australia and two species of spiny anteaters. So I doubt they are the descendants of the dinosaur!
