Ethanol could be the fuel of the future thanks to studies done by researchers at Washington University. They have discovered a process by which fermenting bacteria are guided into breaking down the waste products during the process into methane, which...

he he!
news worth in galleons!
great news!
coz if alcohol is the fuel of the future then no doubts its price will also rocket sky high and then people wont be able to afford both to fuel their cars and themselve and thus in such restricted situations no hapless intoxicated soul will be found lying dead by the drain!
i mean we would be in utopia if something like this really happens!

Good point. But if alcohol is more easily available wouldn’t prices drop as well? And i certainly can expect to see more of the so called ’ethanol crops’ in plantations. So perhaps it would be only slightly higher if not the same price. And that might make drinking alcohol cheaper :P

It’s no use increasing the price of alcohol if its supposed to be a ”cheaper alternative” to petrol. Besides we manufacture the thing from plants. Pretty soon we’ll be able to manufacture it from just cellulose. Its like having a duck farm so that you can have roast duck every day! Who would complain?

I hope automobiles wouldn’t create nuisance being over-drunk. LOL
”Ethanol only provides 26% more energy than what is used to produce it. With this new technology the numbers leap to about 70%!”
It’s a welcome invention and I hope to see its fruition in near future.

Alcohol Cars debuted in the Brazilian market in 1978 and became quite popular because of heavy subsidy, but in the 80’s prices rose and gasoline regained the leading market share. However alcohol is rapidly raising its market share once again because of new technologies involving hybrid fuel car engines called ”Flex”. These engines work with gasoline, alcohol or any mixture of both fuels. Also when alcohol is partially oxygenated, it produces less overall pollution. So now we have more and more reasons for alcohol…umm as a fuel (What did you think :P)

Ethanol is a by-product of sugarcane and is produced by Sugar factories, Clinical trial carried out in India gave the results that upto 26% may be mixed with fuel to run the vehicle. This would reduce the cost of running the vehicle and also reduce dependency on oil import. I am waiting for the announcement by Oil companies or petroleum ministry to make the product available in the market for last 5 years.

Ethanol-gasoline mixtures have been around for sometime now. I have no idea why India had to do a clinical trial on that. Most cars in America run on a 10% gasoline blend while brazil have made it manditory to have all their cars run on a 25% blend. However mixing fuel isnt as easy as it sounds. Ethanol has 34% faster consumption rate than fuel meaning that more fuel would be added per kilometre travelled thus making it more expensive. Furthermore engines that run on such a blend are unsuitable for use with pure gasoline due to the high compression ratio.

Ethanol only cars seem to be showing a lot of promise, giving equal milage per cost since they waste less energy and allow for increased power output and better fuel economy than would be obtained with the lower compression ratio. So the real solution would be to shift to ethanol only cars. But as you know any real change is a slow process.

So drunkcard drivers are subject to face troubles, but drunkcard cars and bushes are certainly not!LOL!!! but I am thinking about the advertisements of these fuels/alcohols, what would they emphasize? the men or the vehicles? So we are soon to read about the double-purpose drinks as well. That’s interesting!!!

Obviously they are not…because unlike drunk men they won’t do something stupid. They are really good for the environment too (the alcohol in the car I mean…hahahha) When they are partially oxygenated, it produces less overall pollution. The combo drink/fuel thing is stupid because the fuel will be 100% ethanol and contrary to popular belief there is no way you can drink 100% ethanol. Some people think vodka is 90% alcohol..losers!

Yes yes, I agree! Brilliant news! I only hope this means more alcohol driven cars are produced. But unfortunately that might take a while as most car manufacturers havnt dsigned a great many cars that run on ethnol as well as they do petrol. Alsothis process hasnt made it to the large scale yet so it will be some time before we find alcohol everywhere...hic!
